The post title sums up both my weekend and this morning’s workout! Backing up to Saturday: the husband and I packed up the dogs and headed out to the property for the weekend. We met a friend of husband’s and his son with the plan that the men (and boy) would hunt while I slept in with the mutts. At first I wasn’t going to go, but then the promise of s’mores and trail running persuaded me.
When we got there I took the dogs for a walk/run on some of the trails around the property to burn off some of their energy before we sat down for lunch. It worked until the cows showed up looking for their cow crack. Both dogs have shown interest in the cows but it never went beyond barking/whining at them. Until Saturday. For some reason the cows set Emma off and she had a major freakout. She was barking and whining like I’ve never heard before and suddenly figured out how to wiggle out of her harness. [Side note: we keep the dogs harnessed and leashed at all times because they have horrible come/recall.]
Emma took off and started running in huge circles, exhilarated by her new-found freedom. Her attention quickly turned to the cow which had taken off during all the commotion (the commotion being me running in circles after Emma and swearing like a sailor). She chased that cow for about a 1/4mile and thank God, was able to dodge the cow’s kicks and head-butts. Luckily I was wearing the appropriate running gear (including my new Mizuno Ascends!) and I have more endurance than Emma. She gave up pretty quick and I ended up carrying her all the way back to camp.
I was never able to fully relax afterwards and neither dog would behave the rest of the day. Finally I had had enough and headed home early (after the s’mores of course) with the dogs and left the husband behind with his friend. I’m disappointed I didn’t get to spend more time with the husband and our friend or get in more trail running like I had planned. I’ve said it before though, life with the dogs is often hectic and at times stressful but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
An example of Emma’s crazy (sorry for the poor video quality, it was taken on my BlackBerry many moons ago):
I woke up early-ish Sunday and spent the day scrubbing the house top to bottom to the tune of Christmas music in preparation for decorating. Am I the only one who has to have a clean house before I set out decorations? We haven’t gotten our tree yet but here is last year’s:
Being back to work today is huge bummer but at least I started my day off right with a killer CrossFit session. Today we did a variation of a common CrossFit WOD called ‘Nutts.’
Two rounds for time of:
- 10 handstand push-ups
- 15 deadlift (105lbs)
- 25 box jumps (20″ box- I really need to move up to 25″)
- 50 pull-ups
- 100 wall ball
- 200 jump things. <– I’m not sure what to call them, we jumped side to side over a PVC pipe propped up by two small tires.
- 400 meter run carrying plate (25lbs)
My time was 55:00.
